Ninja Marketers - Define Your Style
June 27, 2018
Your brand style would be and should be part of all your creative decisions with your business. Things like:
• Your website colors, layout, backgrounds.• Your graphics and how they are designed.• You social media posts and blogging content.
Basically, you should have picked a style for your business and decided to be consistent with that throughout your business.
Today’s task is not about that. It’s about YOU, your style.
I know style is greatly personal. I know you don’t want to feel like you’re wearing a “uniform” for your business. I know you also don’t and won’t want to feel like you’re restricted.
Personal branding isn’t that restrictive!
It is all about YOU deciding how to fit into your brand.
When I started rebranding my business it was NOT hard to “wear my brand” as you might say. I picked a brand flow and style that I LOVED and colors I already wear, a lot.
If anything it might be that instead of me wearing my brand, my brand is wearing ME!
If you’ve branded your business in an authentic way it will be EASY to define a style for you to represent your brand. You want to do this so that people will see the consistency of message with the consistency of YOU showing up to bring that message. They will feel an instant and subconscious trust that they won’t even know about, but it will be there because you decided to present one solid message that you and your business are working in harmony.
If you’re curious where your personal branding style matters, here is what I’m talking about:
• The clothes you wear for videos and pictures.• The way you do your hair (or don’t do it if that’s your brand… like hot mess mama with her messy bun 😉 ).• The backgrounds in your pictures and videos
Here’s a GREAT example of how I am building my personal style around my brand (it doesn’t happen overnight).
My whole brand now is about how you don't have to be a slick marketing pro to build an online business. You don't have to be a techno-geek. Yes there are some skills to learn. But anyone can do this if they are willing to put in the effort. I also market the advantages of living this type of lifestyle. Like not having to get up and go to work every morning. Not having to have a certain wardrobe for your job.
How does this come through in my brand? I've done videos, interviews and FB Lives in my PJs and bathrobe. Because I can stay in my jammies all day if I want to.
I do a lot of work from my bedroom, complete with my hoarder husband's mound of old mail in the background. I used to feel like I had to explain all the time about his thing with mail (having been a victim of identity theft, we're both a bit obsessive about that). Now I use it to show that you don't need a fancy office and video setup. All you need is your phone and an internet connection.
While everyone else is sharing photos of themselves with the latest guru or heavy-hitter, I share photos of myself with my great-nieces...or Spock and a group of Klingons! Yes, I know many of the gurus. But anyone can pay to go to an event and get a photo taken with one. Doesn't mean you actually KNOW them. I'd rather show people the fun I'm having. (And everyone remembers the gal with the Klingons!).
I've always been known for going my own way and so I'm bringing the idea of the Ninja marketer, the rebel, the one who does things in a way that fits her lifestyle, into all of my branding.
And you know what? It feels GREAT to just be me! And it makes all of my marketing so much easier. Because I'm not trying to be something I'm not. So I'm more comfortable and at ease. And it shows.
Come talk to us in the group – what’s your brand style? This doesn’t need to be big things… little things, little color choices, little background choices, etc. If you need brainstorming help, let us know!
